Innovative Glass Floor Shakes Up the Basketball Bundesliga: A Leap into the Future of Indoor Sports

The collaboration between BMW Munich and ASB GlassFloor, developed by Christoph Babinsky and his team, marked a historic moment in the world of basketball during a Bundesliga match, offering a spectacle unlike any other in indoor sports. The innovative glass floor, while appearing ordinary at first glance, is anything but traditional. Embedded with LED technology, it offers an array of visual surprises, and most importantly, allows players to move freely and perform at their peak, mirroring the success witnessed in the Basketball World Cup.

Players initially approached the floor with a hint of skepticism during their first encounters, but it quickly evolved into admiration. “In the beginning, I was a bit skeptical, but that’s the case with every new floor because you have to get used to it. But I quickly found it really cool and could get used to it,” shared world champion Andreas Obst. The LED glass floor adapted itself beautifully to the gameplay, celebrating successful shots with visual flare, without causing any hindrance or restriction to the player’s movements.

The years of hard work by Babinsky and his team in Stein an der Traun in Upper Bavaria, aiming to propel indoor sports into entirely new dimensions, visibly shows off. During halftime, spectators were given a sneak peek into the floor’s potential as part of the entertainment program. The ability to change colors and dynamically display lines or visuals was met with awe. A spectator exclaimed, “Especially during the free throws, when the colors also change and the lines are not painted on but are displayed, it looks so crazy. I have never seen that. Even at halftime, you could see entertaining animations.”

This technological marvel is a significant investment, showcasing Babinsky’s ambition: “My goal is to equip all 18 Bundesliga clubs with this floor. We have a plan to achieve this.”

The ASB GlassFloor is redefining the ambiance and technological integration in sports arenas. Currently captivating basketball players and fans with its interactive display, it sets an exciting trajectory for the future of indoor sports, promising to revolutionize the experience in all Bundesliga clubs.
