BLAST R6 Munich Major

Beyond Sports:
How ASB GlassFloor Transformed BMW Park into an Award-Winning Esports Arena

Multifunctional arenas face a constant challenge: how to transition effortlessly between professional sports and high-end entertainment without sacrificing visual impact or requiring days of stage build-up.

The BLAST R6 Munich Major at BMW Park demonstrated how the permanently installed ASB GlassFloor bridges this gap. By utilizing the arena’s existing glass floor as a live, game-responsive stage, the event created a world-first esports experience, proving that modern arena infrastructure can deliver world-class entertainment far beyond classical sports.

The production won the Global Tech Award 2026 for Event Technology.

The Story: From Sports Surface to Interactive World

When top-tier esports returned to Munich in November 2025, Ubisoft and BLAST needed an arena environment that could translate digital in-game narrative into the physical space. Rather than bringing in temporary stage structures, the creative team utilized BMW Park’s LumiFlex floor as the central storytelling canvas.

Technical Execution & Storytelling

  • A 25-Million-Pixel Canvas: Running at a resolution of  across the floor, the full LED sports floor offered a full-video stage embedded directly into the arena floor.
  • Live Game Integration: Guided by Ubisoft’s “flooded map” concept and inspired by Munich’s Eisbach River, Art Director and Creative Technologist Louis Gauger built a layered trigger system. Content created in Cinema 4D, After Effects, and Unreal Engine was fed through the game API and played back via Disguise.
  • Game-Responsive Interaction: Instead of running pre-rendered video loops, the floor reacted live to match data. Player actions fired distinct flooding animations, making the physical stage respond dynamically to the action happening in the game.

It was the first large-scale LED floor BLAST had staged, and their first game-responsive LED floor of its kind.

Why it Matters for Venue Operators & Event Creators

This installation highlights a fundamental shift in live event execution:

  1. Unlocking New Event Formats: Arenas equipped with glass LED floors can instantly host non-sporting events, non-traditional sports, concerts, and live broadcasts with zero floor preparation time.
  2. Enhanced Fan Experience: The ability to merge physical venue space with real-time digital data creates immersive environments that engage both arena crowds and home broadcast viewers.

Industry Voices

“The BLAST R6 Munich Major was all about resilience and proving who could rise above the competition when the pressure was at its highest. We wanted every aspect of the event to reflect that ambition, not only in the matches but also in the live experience. The ASB GlassFloor helped us bring that vision to life, creating a unique stage that elevated the atmosphere and immersed fans in every moment of the tournament. It became a defining feature of one of our most distinctive Rainbow Six events to date.” Nelson Garcia, Director, Esports Live Events & Broadcast at Ubisoft

“As part of the BLAST team, I was tasked with designing an immersive, game-responsive environment built around the ASB GlassFloor as its centerpiece. The result blended scenographic representations of the game with dynamic water footage that shifted live based on how players performed on stage. The arena became a massive, game-responsive world that pulled audiences into the drama and storytelling of the event, both in the venue and on screens at home. The LumiFlex was the key to delivering a showpiece that both Ubisoft and BLAST could be proud of.” Louis Gauger, Art Director & Creative Technologist
