Lidl Final4 2026

A record breaking transformation of the LANXESS Arena turning the Superball of Handball into a 9,700 square foot digital stage for elite performance and fan engagement.

About the Project

At the LANXESS Arena in Cologne, ASB GlassFloor recently transformed the German Handball Cup into a high tech sporting experience. Utilizing over 900 square meters (approx. 9,700 square feet) of our LumiFlex technology, the court was turned into a massive full LED media surface. This allowed for the real time integration of dynamic show elements, player introductions, and sponsor branding directly on the field of play, reaching millions of viewers across 60 countries. By replacing traditional physical floor stickers with digital branding, we significantly enhanced athlete safety by providing a uniform surface and eliminating slip hazards.

The project served as a definitive proof of concept for elite level handball, as the floor earned full accreditation from the International Handball Federation (IHF) for its superior friction and performance. Beyond the game itself, the event highlighted our logistical precision within a high pressure environment. Following a professional ice hockey playoff game on Wednesday evening, the entire glass floor was installed, wired, and tested on Thursday. This enabled full team practices on Friday before the two day tournament took place. By Monday morning, the floor was already removed and the arena had transitioned back to professional ice hockey, proving the versatility of our portable systems for multi purpose world class venues.
